During his years in the Air Force, he was sent to operate in West Germany. The number 9022 is derived from an airplane, assigned to his Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU). The mission was to generate multiple successful flights daily, (known as sorties) free of significant issues achieving the highest credibility throughout the base. 9022 was best known for its unparalleled performance delivering effective, immediate, consistent, and dependable results.

Since then 9022 has been to multiple wars but is most known for its appearance in the Gulf War with Iraq in 1991. Later in 2018, it was trucked to Pueblo Weisbrod Museum. It was completely restored to the way it looked when Looney flew the aircraft with the 36th TFW at Bitburg.
